LoA part II, Expectation and Assumption

Your assumptions and expectations are possibly the largest determining factor for what kind of life you will live, and having unfavourable expectations and assumptions can lead to major damage in your life. All that we intend, desire, and assume make up our consciousness, and a change in any of the three will alter our consciousness, and begin attracting to us whatever is most in line with our assumptions. Our intent and desires are dictated by what we assume about them, and ultimately how they will find expression. If we believe we can acquire the things we want only by a specific means, we are closing ourselves off to the possibility of other channels of growth and attainment. If we recognize that what we require for our growth can come from the most unlikely places, abundance is everywhere.

Assumption plays a large part in the Law of Attraction. Many people ASSUME the Law of Attraction doesn’t work, and that is exactly the condition they are creating in their lives. Hypnosis is the same way; many people are convinced they cannot be hypnotized, and don’t realize they have literally hypnotized themselves into that state. If you expect the Law of Attraction to be just be some wishy-washy babble, it will likely never reveal any of the deeper aspects of itself to you(even though you are ignoring the fact that the law is operating simply because that IS how you are perceiving it). The Law of Attraction, and life as a whole, is exactly what you say it is. If you assume that it just won’t work, that will be what you attract, and you will have a hard time getting anything else out of it.

Again, this is merely a psychological fact of our human nature. I was almost hesitant to write about the ‘law of attraction’ because of how commercialized it’s become in the last few years, and how many people are turned off by it because of that fact, but really that is just a fancy name given to how we direct our conscious attention and create our subjective reality.

Life is more than willing to give you exactly what you ask for, but you first must ask

This wonderful poem by Jessie Belle Rittenhouse epitomizes this idea,

I bargained with Life for a penny,
And Life would pay no more,
However I begged at evening
When I counted my scanty store;

For Life is a just employer,
He gives you what you ask,
But once you have set the wages,
Why, you must bear the task.

I worked for a menial’s hire,
Only to learn, dismayed,
That any wage I had asked of Life,
Life would have paid.

This is where the idea of ‘self-fulfilling prophecy’ comes into play, and what I touched on in the last post about whether you aim high, or aim low in life. Many people aim low because they assume it’s all that is possible for them, and sure enough, they live those conditions in their lives. Others, despite all ‘physical evidence’ around them, are satisfied with nothing but the highest life has to offer, and they too, are rewarded by what they assume to be true, and what they expect for themselves.

Acting with coherency

Of course, you cannot attain anything you desire or intend without the assumption that it really can be attained. If you desire something, but in the back of your head you constantly think, “It’s no use, why do I even try?” this will supersede your desire, and these are the conditions that will be expressed. Further, if you have desires and intention to a successful musician, but you constantly don’t take opportunities to play music with others as they come, you aren’t acting with coherency to your goal. If you desire to attract a new relationship in your life, but are constantly avoiding interacting with others, you will likely not reach your goal; you have to assume what you desire is an already established fact, and then act from this new reality. You must be conscious of being healthy if you are to know what health is. You must be conscious of what it feels like to be financially secure if you are to know what financial security is.

This is an extremely difficult point for most people, and probably the largest single factor stopping people from manifesting the things they want in a consistent manner. You absolutely MUST begin to think FROM the new reality you hope to manifest. Many people think they cannot be happy without a romantic partner. You must begin living from a place where you are acting with coherence to your ideal, or else you won’t be creating the condition for what you want. Do you really think you will attract a mate with the attitude that you can’t be happy without one, or are you more likely to attract someone as the confidant, happy, handsome, wholesome, sexy being you feel you will become when you actually have that mate?

Events in the past have already happened, and can no more affect you right now than a rock that was thrown yesterday. The moment of creation is NOW, and it can only ever be NOW. It is up to you right NOW to decide whether what happened in your past had been your fateful downfall, or merely an obstacle. Nothing is inherently good, or inherently bad, it is the consciousness that observes them. If you can let the obstacles in your past be merely obstacles, then you are closer than most to moving to higher, and better stages of consciousness. Nothing is inherently good or bad, so you should assume the best of everything, and think only of that which is inspiring and beautiful.

There is no reason why you cannot be happy TODAY for the beautiful things you will get TOMORROW. And so what if you’re wrong and don’t end up getting tomorrow what you want? Should that make any difference in feeling happiness today? The happiness is yours, and you can feel it whenever you like. You may already do this with a fond memory you have of something that you allow yourself to bring up and feel the happiness it provides you. There is no difference whether it comes from your past or your future.

You need to act as though you EXPECT only the best things to happen to you. If you don’t, you are ASSUMING less than favourable conditions about life.

Tomorrow, be ready for Desire and Letting Go.

Thank you so much for this! It really hit a chord how you explained about attracting a relationship. I feel that i’ve been coming from a sense of lack for a long time now…and like you said, not from a wholesome place. I’m going to try what you said…let myself feel how I would if I had what i wanted in my life. I’ve read the law of attraction in the past, but the way you have written about it – is easier to digest. Thanks again. Looking forward to reading more 🙂
